TByrd

Being Australian it wasn't going to be long before I built something inspired by Maton. They are a uniquely Australian manufacturer and had some GREAT shaped guitars and basses in the 60's. This is a bass based on the classic Maton Fyrebyrd.

Very similar in construction to a Fender P bass with a J bass profile neck, I'm delighted to introduce this completely handmade original.

Maton never officially made the Fyrebyrd in bass form and never would have used the Fender as a starting point as they were fiercely original in design and construction methods.

The basswood body is shaped and carved by hand and has a hand shaped bolt on 34" maple neck with rosewood fingerboard and typical Maton style black dot markers and black binding.

The neck profile and radius is taken directly from an early 70's Fender J bass.

The pick ups are Seymour Duncan vintage P bass running through standard master volume and tone controls. Bridge work is handled by a BadAss.

The single ply, plexy glass scratchplate is the same material used by Maton back in the 60's and combined with "no name" black headstock finished the look.

Tym guitars is very happy to introduce the TByrd to everyone who loves old style quirk with genuine vintage tone and playability. If you've always wanted your boring old P/J bass to look way cooler, here it is .......

This bass pictured is the prototype of a VERY limited number of TByrd Maton inspired models I will be offering.
