THESE MAY HELP YOU IDENTIFY YOUR MOSRITE

MYTH: Some later Ventures models have the earlier Vibramute trem fitted to be sold as "early" models.

This unfortunately is true. It happens with allot of vintage guitars that have slight changes that can be swapped with later models easily. "Fake" Fenders are a dime a dozen (if only) and can fool even the most dedicated expert.

There's two ways to check if your Ventures model originally had a Vibramute. The first is to check the serial number. Moseley trems (or vibratos as they should be known) were introduced at around serial number 2500 in 1965. This can get a bit scary if your guitars serial number falls close to this number.

The other way is to check if there's an indentation on the paint around the tailpiece. The Vibramute is a slightly different shape to a Moseley and you will see indentations left by the other trem. The Vibramute also has 5 screws securing it to the body of the guitar, while the Moseley has 4 (not including the bridge height bolts) so carefully removing the tailpiece will confirm your Mosrites authenticity.

Some Ventures reissues made by Mosrite in the USA in the 80's and early 90's had Vibramutes fitted from the factory and the Vibramute tailpiece was available from Mosrite as a hardware part in the catalogue around these times as well as being available (with all the names) from Mosrite Japan.

MYTH: Kurt Cobain's 1960s Mosrite Gospel Guitar. This instrument is unusual in a couple of ways. It is the only known example of a Mark IV style Mosrite Gospel model.

This guitar has come up for sale several times so it is time to "correct" this myth. I have pics of at least 4 different guitars of these and I have serial numbers of 7. This was a typical Mosrite Mk II/V that was branded as a Gospel more than likely in 1970 or early 71.

Semie used the Gospel name several times throughout Mosrite and this particular guitar shows all the signs of being from 1970.

MORE TO COME.
