Finally an affordable replacement Mosrite pickup from Tym guitars, Australia.

Tym guitars brings you a replica of the original Mosrite pickup. These are handmade, hand wound single coil pick ups using the design made famous by Mosrite of California. These are made to exacting specs by Tym guitars and will retro fit nearly any Mosrite guitar or bass without modification to the guitar.

The covers and surrounds are taken from exact measurements and are available in black or white. The covers are die cast plastic and the surrounds are cast black resin, just like the originals.

These are NOT meant for exacting restoration purposes. See Copyright below.

After years of research into Mosrite pick-ups and possible replacements, it became obvious that the only way to do it properly was start at the beginning and make a "Mosrite" pickup using today's technology and materials. Bobbin core and ends are made from more stable modern materials but to exact sizes and the best quality polyurethane copper wire is used to wind to the original number of windings and tone. The pick-ups are potted for less feedback (unlike the originals) and lead wires are attached to the bobbin plate using eyelets. This overcomes one of the design flaws that the original had. The Alnico V magnets are stronger than the originals used by Mosrite which gives a more powerful sound with heaps of mid range and these pick ups use the original pan head Phillips screws for pole screws.

All pick-ups come with smooth covers and surrounds (Mounting rings) that will screw directly to your Mosrite.

Colours available: Black. White.
Lead wires: 300mm (12") shielded single core.
Polarity: South up as original.

Disclaimer and pick up information

Copyright names: As with most Tym products these pick-ups do not have any Mosrite names or trademarks and have been made to be recognizably different to a real Mosrite pick up when not installed. This is to stop them being sold/traded as the real thing on the vintage market. Once installed, they will look very close to original.

Resistance: Tym guitars replacement pick-ups are wound to approx. 10K, however they can be made to your specs and tastes. These will give a very similar sound, tone and volume as the originals, even those with higher resistance. See detailed explanation below.

Copper wire today has less resistance than in the past and in fact Australia makes "the best" copper wire in the world. Today's manufacturing techniques allow for allot less oxygen content (hence high quality speaker cables with LOC or OFC written on them. Oxygen free copper) Nearly every country in the world has oxygen content in their wire except Australia. The original 43 gauge wire from the 60's has enough difference in resistance to show the difference in resistance in these pick ups. A piece 2 feet long would show 0.000 now or in the 60's, but with the sort of lengths we're using, it definitely makes a difference.

However ... Resistance has very little to do with the pick up sound, tone and peak resonance. The peak resonance is the important thing. The higher the peak resonance, the more "treble" the pick up will sound. The peak resonance is achieved by the power of the magnets and the number of windings. If an original Mosrite pick up had 10000 windings at 12K * and ours have 10000 windings at 10K, as long as the magnet type and basic design are the same, they will sound the same or similar. The resistance is the result of the number of windings and not directly related to the output/tone of the pick up. The output of a pick up is, lets say 10K and the input resistance of an average amplifier is 1 MEG (100 000 times) then it really can't tell the difference between 10K and 12K

* Mosrite pick ups varied from 8K to 13K depending on year and model. Humbuckers were wound to 5 to 5.5K.
